El interes patrimonial del Aramo es indudable por la utilidad científica y pedagógica y como recurso natural y cultural. Más del 46% de su superficie está ocupada por 18 hábitats de interes comunitario para la UE, así como especies de plantas y animales recogidas en la directiva europea. Las comunidades de Taxus baccata, concretamente, son excepcionales por su singularidad colectiva y las particularidades que exhiben entre ellas mismas en esta sierra; igualmente los pastizales altimontanos y herbazales sabalpinos, mantenidos por una actividad pastoril tradicional originada hace más de 3000 años.
